Tesla is building the world's largest supercharging station in China, instead of the United States.

We know that the Chinese market is important for Tesla. However, we did not expect it to have a larger charging station than in the US Recently, Tesla built the largest supercharging station in the world, with 72 stalls in China.

Prior to that, Tesla’s largest supercharging station was in Firebaugh, California, with 56 stalls. In November 2020, Tesla inaugurated the largest supercharging station with 56 charging stations. Now, in less than a few months, it has built the largest supercharging station in the world in China.

I found out the news when a local Tesla user uploaded the images to Twitter.

More about the largest supercharger in the world

The new Tesla charging station is located at the Jing’an International Center in Shanghai, China. With 72 charging stations, it is now the largest supercharging station in the world.

However, it is not the most powerful or fastest charging station Tesla has. According to Tesla, the stalls have a maximum load capacity of 120 kW, while the previous charging station in California has the most advanced 250 kW V3 overloaders.

Although it may not have V3 superchargers, the size of this station suggests the importance of the Chinese market for Tesla.

China is crucial to Tesla

The achievement of Chinese automakers in the electric vehicle industry is quite remarkable. While the rest of the world’s best automakers are struggling to produce competitive electric cars, China already has several successful electric vehicle manufacturers such as Nio, BYD, Xpeng and others at stake.

On the contrary, if we consider the USA, with the exception of Tesla, there are no other manufacturers of dedicated electric vehicles that have cars driven on the roads. However, companies such as Rivian and Lucid Motors are quite impressive, but have not yet delivered their first electric vehicle.

Thus, we can understand the level of competition from Tesla in China. Undoubtedly, it will be quite difficult for Tesla to overtake its Chinese rivals. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, seems to be very aware of the situation and, for this reason, Tesla has worked from the beginning to make the Model 3 cheaper.

Cheaper, Tesla did not want to do this by compromising quality, but by optimizing technology and the manufacturing process.

In early mid-2020, we reported that Tesla was working with a Chinese battery company, CATL, to produce cheaper batteries.

In addition, Tesla has its own Gigafactory in Shanghai. We also often hear updates of Tesla-related electric cars in China.
