Navigating the British legal system can be incredibly intimidating if you don’t know what you’re doing. However, for many people, the commitment of time and cost to hire a lawyer may be too high.
At this time, Dr. Mark Edwards, vice president and general manager of Rocket lawyer Britain decided it was time to take justice into its own hands and joined Rocket Lawyer to launch its business in the UK. We met with Dr. Edwards to find out why it was the right time to modernize the way the legal system serves both people and women. Business .
Where did the great idea to bring Rocket Lawyer to the UK come from?
Dr. Mark Edwards
Rocket Lawyer Inc. was launched by Charley Moore in 2008, a San Francisco technology lawyer who wanted to create an online legal service to simplify the law and make it accessible to small businesses and individuals. In 2012 it was time to bring the concept to the UK, as people have the same problems getting legal assistance here, so I joined Rocket Lawyer to launch the service.
We now help more than 100,000 people each month with their legal issues.
What problem is Rocket Lawyer trying to solve?
There are 5.2 million small businesses in the UK and, on average, each will have 13 legal issues a year, according to a recent study by the Legal Services Council . These include all sorts of legal issues, such as labor property, commercial property, intellectual property and taxes.
However, 87% of these companies find that consulting a lawyer to solve these problems is too expensive. Lawyer Rocket is here to reduce the cost of legal services for these small businesses, giving them the tools to create legal documents themselves and to get legal advice from lawyers at a reduced rate when needed.
What is the biggest challenge you have overcome so far?
Our biggest challenge was creating the best customer experience for creating legal documents online. We had to divide complex legal documents into questions that ordinary people could easily understand and answer.
Where do you see Rocket Lawyer in five years?
A global brand known for helping small businesses and individuals get affordable legal aid anywhere in the world.
What is the only thing you would have liked to know from the beginning?
Hiring the right people for a startup is crucial. Each job requires limited effort and funds. And each person must have the right skills, development potential and cultural fit.
