If you want to stream content to your TV without an expensive set-top box, Google Chromecast is an amazing option! You can even control playback with your iPhone. We will guide you through the configuration.
Chromecast is a receiver that streams multimedia content to your TV. It does not include built-in applications such as Apple TV or Roku. Instead, just tap the Cast button in any supported app on your iPhone, and Google sends that content to your Chromecast.
The Chromecast looks like a miniature UFO connected to a TV via a short HDMI cable. The included power supply connects to the device’s micro-USB port. The standard model ($ 35 at the time of writing) supports 1080p 60Hz content, while Ultra model it’s more expensive ($ 69 at the time of writing), but it supports 4K content with a high dynamic range.
As part of the installation process, you connect your Chromecast to Google Assistant. This way, you can use verbal commands to access and play content. For example, you could say “Hello Google. Play the latest episode of Stranger things on the TV in the living room «.
The Google Assistant will then stream that episode to your Chromecast connected to your TV. However, make sure you correctly identify your Chromecast («Living Room TV» in this example) so that Google Assistant understands it and throws it at its correct destination.

Prepare your devices
Connect the Chromecast adapter to the TV’s HDMI port, and then connect the power supply to an electrical outlet. You’ll see a message on your TV with instructions for getting the Google Home app.
Download and install the file Google Home app from the App Store. Then open the iPhone Control Center. If your iPhone has a Home button, you can do so by swiping up from the bottom edge; If you have a newer phone, swipe down from the top right corner. Also, make sure Bluetooth is turned on (the icon should be blue).
If you don’t want to use Bluetooth, tap «No thanks» when Chromecast prompts you to turn it on. Then you’ll need to connect directly to your Chromecast via Wi-Fi. To do this, open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap Wi-Fi, and then select your Chromecast from the list.
Set up your Chromecast
To set up your Chromecast, open the Google Home app on your iPhone. Near the top, you should see a message to install a detected device; tap it to continue. If you don’t see a message, scroll a few feet away from your Chromecast and see if it appears.
If the message still doesn’t appear, check that the Chromecast is turned on and displays a message on the TV. You can also restart the app or iPhone and see if that solves the problem.
Select a house (or create a new one) on the next screen and then tap «Next». He will look for devices at home.
Select your Chromecast in the results and then tap ‘Next’.
Check that the code you see on your iPhone matches the code displayed on your TV. if so, tap «Yes».
On the next screen, you’ll be asked if you want to help Google improve the Chromecast experience. tap «Yes, I’m in» or «No, thank you.» You must also tap «Agree» to accept the Google Device Arbitration Agreement.
From there, select the room where your Chromecast is located and then tap «Next». It keeps all your devices organized, especially if you use smart light bulbs, locks, speakers, multiple Chromecasts, and more. the home.
Once you’ve selected a camera, scroll to the Wi-Fi network you want the Chromecast to connect to, then tap ‘Next’. While Chromecast is trying to connect, you may be asked to enter a password. Once your device connects, you’ll be prompted to connect your device to your Google Account. Touch «Continue» to continue.
The following screens cover the Google Assistant. Initially, you’ll see information about Google’s YouTube partners, services, privacy, guests, and recommendations. After that, you’ll be asked to grant Google Assistant access to all contacts on your paired devices.
The next step is to add radio, video, and TV services to the Google Assistant. Manually connect to each service to connect them, then tap «Next». If you prefer to connect these services later, click «Not now».
At the end of the process, you’ll see a summary, including where your Chromecast is, the associated Wi-Fi network, and its connected services. If everything looks right, tap «Next». Google Home provides examples of tutorial clips, but you can skip them if you want.
Finally, remember the name given to your Chromecast on Google Home. In our example, the application labeled it «Living Room TV» because it is installed in the «Living Room» group.
To create a new name, tap the device in the Google Home app. On the next screen, tap the wheel icon in the upper right corner. Touch the name of the current device on the next screen to rename it.
Add Chromecast manually
If you didn’t see a message in the Google Home app to add your Chromecast, tap the plus sign (+) in the upper left corner.
On the next screen, tap «Set up your device» in the «Add to homepage» section.
Touch «Set up new devices» on the next screen.
On the next screen, select the house where the device is located and tap «Next». From here, follow the instructions in the «Set Up Chromecast» section above.
