Gmail now lets you write an email and schedule a sending time. Schedule an email for later and it will be sent to the specific date and time you choose. It is especially convenient to respond to emails outside of business hours.
Google added this feature in April 2019. Email scheduling previously requires a third-party extension, such as Boomerang. It’s now integrated into both the Gmail website and the Gmail app. You can have up to 100 emails scheduled at a time.
How to schedule an email on the desktop
On the Gmail website in desktop browsers, periodically compose your email. Instead of clicking the regular Send button, click the down arrow to the right of the Send button, and then click «Schedule Shipping.»
Tell Gmail when you want to send the email. You can choose a time like «tomorrow morning» or you can provide a custom date and time.
You can even schedule an email for a few years. Maybe you want to send a message to your future sin in a few years! Gmail will allow you to schedule emails until 2068. If Gmail is still around 48 years old and Google hasn’t changed the way this feature works, Gmail will send the email to the intended recipient, assuming you have continue that email address.
How to schedule an email on iPhone or Android
In the Gmail app for iPhone or Android, compose your email normally. Instead of tapping the «Send» button, tap the menu button in the upper right corner of the screen, and then tap «Schedule shipping.»
Choose the date and time you want Gmail to send your email. Just like on the desktop, you can choose an option like «tomorrow morning» or you can choose a specific date and time.
How to cancel a scheduled email on your desktop
You can view scheduled emails by clicking «Scheduled» in the left pane of the Gmail interface on your computer.
Open the scheduled email address you want to stop.
To unsubscribe from the email, click ‘Unsubscribe’ in the upper right corner of the email.
Gmail will return the message in a draft. You can edit its contents and reschedule the email, or send it right away. If you do not want to send the email, you can delete the sketch or save it for later.
How to cancel a scheduled email on iPhone or Android
In the Gmail app for iPhone or Android, tap the menu button in the upper left corner of the screen and then tap «Scheduled» in the sidebar menu.
Touch the scheduled email you want to cancel.
Just like on the desktop, tap «Cancel sending» in the upper right corner of the email to cancel sending.
Gmail will return the email to a draft. You will not lose your email unless you choose to unsubscribe.
Microsoft Outlook only will send scheduled emails when you have the Outlook desktop open. Gmail is smarter. It will send you scheduled emails at the right time, even if you don’t have your Gmail site or application open.
