How to quickly create a note on your iPhone or iPad

If you want to catch ideas on the go, the Apple Notes app is a great way to do it. When you have a great idea, it may seem too complicated to find and launch the application on your device. Fortunately, there is an easy way to quickly access Notes using a shortcut from the Control Center.

How to start the Control Center

The control center is a collection of shortcuts for commonly used tasks, such as adjusting screen brightness, volume, song playback, and more. It also serves as a way to quickly launch features such as turning on the flashlight or taking a photo.

In the next step, we will add a shortcut to launch Notes. But first, here’s how to start the Control Center.

  • iPhone X or later / iPad with iOS 12 or later: swipe down from the top right of the screen.
  • iPhone 8 or earlier / iPad with iOS 11 or earlier: swipe up from the bottom of the screen. (The control center first appeared in iOS 7).

One of the most useful things about the Control Center is that you can start it even without unlocking your device, which makes accessing shortcuts much faster.

Add a note shortcut to the Control Center

To quickly launch notes on your device, we’ll add a shortcut to the application in the Control Center. Here’s how to do it.

Open Settings, scroll down the list until you find the Control Center, and then tap it.

In the Control Center, tap «Customize commands.»

You will be presented with a list of features that you can choose to add to the Control Center.

Scroll down to the «Notes» option and press it.

The Notes icon will be added to the «Include» list at the top of the screen. You can change the order of the icons in the Control Center by rearranging them in this list.

Now exit the settings by returning to the home screen or another application.

Drag the edge of the screen to launch the Control Center (see instructions above). You should see the Notes icon (which looks like a small pencil notebook) on the screen.

The Notes application will open on the screen. Start writing.

Example of using notes on iOS

Whenever you want to quickly note a note, launch Control Center by swiping on the screen, tap the Notes icon, and you’ll be immediately directed to the app.

By default, the Control Center allows you to write new notes even when the device is locked. Existing notes are not accessible unless you unlock the device with the password. To change these settings, go to Settings> Notes> Access notes from the lock screen.

How to remove notes from the Control Center

If you want to remove Notes from the Control Center, follow these steps.

Go to Settings> Control Center.

Touch «Customize orders».

Select Customize commands from the iOS Control Center

Find the Notes entry in the list (with a red minus sign in a circle next to it) and tap it. It will be removed from the Control Center.
