There is nothing like the connections you make when you play video games on the couch with your friends. However, the Steam Play Remote Together feature allows you to play local online multiplayer games, even if the game does not support multiplayer.
What is Remote Play Together?
A lot of games offer online multiplayer, but not all. Some games are designed for two or more people sitting together in front of the same screen.
For Steam games without online multiplayer, there is Remote Play Together. Steam runs the game on your computer and broadcasts it live to your friends. Everyone sees what you see on the screen and the entries they make on their computers are sent to yours. A se gandi la Google Stage, but runs entirely on the computer.
The only person who needs to own or install the game is the person running it. This makes this feature useful even if a game offers online multiplayer because, with Remote Play Together, only the host has to buy the game. Any of your Steam friends can join, whether or not they own the game.
How to use Remote Play together
To get started, simply launch your game via Steam. After you have started and run, press Shift + Tab to open the Steam overlay, then click «View all friends».
If you have disabled Steam Overlay, you will need to re-enable it. To do this, right-click on the game in your library, select «Properties», then check the box next to «Enable Steam Overlay during the game».
In the friends list, right-click the name of a friend you want to invite. Under the game title, select «Play together remotely» to invite that person to your session. On Windows and Linux computers (but not Macs), sending this invitation automatically starts a voice chat with that person. Any subsequent invitation adds additional members to a group voice chat.
You can invite as many players as your space has; the most I got was seven. Free embargo, according Valve, you can invite «up to four players or even more with fast connections».
Players you invite to the game cannot invite anyone else to play. However, they can invite people to watch them all play. If you press Shift + Tab, Alt + Tab or Cmd + Tab to exit the game, everyone except the host will see the «Please wait» screen.
How to manage the game remotely together
Once started, anyone who receives an invitation to your session can enter commands from the mouse, keyboard, or gamepad. You can restrict this access by player and device. To do this, press Shift + Tab to open the Steam Overlay and «Remote Play» menu.
In this window, the host can click the mouse, keyboard, or gamepad icon under any player to disable entries on those devices. You can also use the volume slider next to each person to increase or decrease the volume in voice chat.
You can remove the invited players from the session with the «Kick Player» button.
Guests can press Shift + Tab to open their own menus. Here I can control the volume of the game and all the other players in the voice chat, including the host.
They can press the «Exit Broadcast» button at any time to exit the session.
Keep in mind that Remote Play Together will only work the same as computers and internet connections. However, even if they are not of the best quality, you can still play most games with your friends with a minimum gap.
