Google Forms is the easiest way to create a form that can be completed online. Most Google forms look similar, but you can make the form stand out and adapt to your event, website, or company branding.
Select a template
The first way to customize a Google form is by selecting a template from the gallery. Google offers 17 different templates that you can use to quickly set up the type of form you need. These templates are divided into several types:
- Personal: are forms for personal use, such as invitations, person-to-person sales, contact forms and meeting hours.
- Job: These forms should be used for your workplace or business, such as customer feedback forms and job applications for potential employees.
- Education: are used for an educational institution, such as exams or classroom assessments.
- In white: use this to start a completely new shape from scratch.
These form templates have predefined question types that you can change or remove if they don’t apply to your needs. These are a good starting point for creating your own templates, as you can customize and save them as a custom template.
To select a template, go to the Google Forms homepage and click on «Template Gallery» in the upper right corner. Before editing the template, be sure to rename the form in the upper right corner.
Customize the background color and theme
Another thing you can do is customize the background color and theme of a form. To do this, when you’re on your Google form, click the palette button at the top right of the page to display the «Theme Options» sidebar.
From here, you can select one of the available default theme colors or use them with the RGB color picker. It automatically sets the color scheme for the entire shape, including accent colors and the default header color.
You can also select one of the four background colors for your forms. These include a neutral gray color and light, medium, and dark versions of your theme color.
Customize the header image
Another way to customize your Google form is to change the header image that appears at the top of each page. This is a great way to visually describe what your form is about.
On the Google form edit page, go back to «Theme options» and select «Choose image.» From here, you can select from a variety of stock options offered by Google, which are divided into several categories according to uses such as «Birthday» and «Wedding».
You can also use your own images. Click Upload to add an image from your computer or Photos to select one of the images in the Google Photo library.
Change the font
You can also change the font of a Google form, although with only a few options available. To do this, go to Theme Options and scroll down to «Font Style».
From here, you can choose one of the following:
- Basic: Sans-Serif Roboto
- Decorative: Script Parisienne
- Formal: Serif Cormoran Garamond
- Playful: Patrick’s handwritten hand
You can also change a few things through the «Presentation settings» menu. To access this, click Settings in the upper right corner of the page, then go to the «Overview» tab.
From here, you can change whether or not you want to have a progress bar and set a custom confirmation message for your form. The progress bar is a way to show the respondent how much of the form is left after completing a question. This is especially useful for students taking a test with Google Forms.
The personalized confirmation message may contain text, links, or contact information. If not completed, the default value will be «Your reply has been recorded».
Create your own templates
