How to add an emoji viewer to your Mac's menu bar

Using emojis is easy on your phone and can be just as easy on your Mac. Add an emoji viewer to your Mac’s menu bar to easily access emojis, symbols, and more with just a few clicks.

Macs accept emojis as well as iPhones and iPads. Can open an emoji panel anywhere pressing Control + Command + Space, but this larger emoji viewer makes the entire Mac emoji catalog much more navigable.

Of all the different ways to insert emoji, this is the simplest. It puts emojis just two clicks away and, as a bonus, puts other symbols at your fingertips. Whether you want to insert the file signal © , symbol Ω or just a naughty ek, you can do everything in an instant by following this guide.

Add an emoji viewer to the menu bar

This option does not appear in the menu bar of your Mac by default, but you only need to enable it once.

Click the Apple logo at the top of the screen and then the «System Preferences» button.

Then click on the «Keyboard» preferences panel.

Click the «Keyboard» tab and select the «Show keyboard and emoji viewers in the menu bar» checkbox.

With this option enabled, a new button will appear on the menu bar, as shown below.

Using the emoji viewer

With a text box open, click the menu item in the emoji viewer, and then click the «Show emoji and symbols» option.

Click the emoji menu bar item, and then click Show emoji and symbols

The emoji and symbol viewer will appear and you can navigate through all the emoji and symbols or search for the one you want to use. Once you have it, double-click it to insert it.

With an emoji inserted, you can close the emoji viewer. It will still be in the menu bar when you need it again.

You can also add an emoji as a favorite by clicking «Add to Favorites» and it will always be available for quick access. Even if you don’t have your favorite emojis, the ones you use the most can be found in the Frequently Used section. This is maximum comfort.
