Defense groups and public policies
Advocacy and public policy groups are not advocacy groups in the typical sense of the word. While they help support the funds and programs that make daily life possible for many families, they are less available to provide individual counseling, groups, or even programs. Some, however, do much more than lobby and plead. For example, the American Diabetes Foundation offers programs such as summer camps, as well as awareness events, local calendars, and helps raise local funds. .
Regardless of your child’s disability or disorder, you will find a national aid organization. You won’t find local friends per se, but you’ll find information, opportunities to vote on issues that concern you, fundraising, and other ways to support the cause.
