3 smart shortcuts for a curious Chrome OS hidden command

Chromebook owners, note: these are shortcuts that have been missed.

ANDListen, listen, my Chromebook buddies: I’ve never got the delicious new trick for you, er, for Vol ?

It is a very useful shortcut that you can add to computer Chrome operating system to fill a curious gap and make your system much easier to use. Intriguing, don’t you think?

Here’s what’s happening: Despite all the progress Google has made with the Chrome operating system over the years and without a doubt, there were many! – Some facts with an extraordinarily simple appearance were strangely unaddressed. We are now getting form (still hidden) to restore all your apps and windows and prevent those browser-damn windows from popping up every time you restart your broken Chromebook, say, about a decade into the life of the platform. .

And this topic today is in the same category of “How can we not do that yet?» Characteristics. The main difference is that Google yet You haven’t addressed this effectively, so it’s up to you to find or create the creative solution.

I’m talking about the annoying lack of any simple reset command in Chrome OS software. It’s something that came up during a conversation with one of my members Android Intelligence Platinum community recently, so I set out to scratch this fuzzy old mammal and find a solution.

Strange, is not it? But like most things on GoogleLand, there is a fairly easy solution. In fact, there are some.

Choose your own adventure:

Chrome OS reboot shortcut – Custom control option

First, you can take matters into your own hands and create a custom shortcut to reset your Chrome operating system. The secret is a little-known Chrome command to start a new start – all you have to do is type chrome: restart in the address bar of any browser window and bam – the Chromebook will reboot itself.

It’s great, but we can go one step further and turn it into a time-saving shortcut. We will only trust him Chrome address bar custom action method which I shared with you a few months ago to place a shortcut to create magic.

  1. Write chrome: settings in the address bar of any Chrome browser window on your Chromebook.
  2. Scroll down until you see the Search Engines sections, then click the line inside it labeled «Manage Search Engines.»
  3. On the screen that appears below, find the line that says «Other search engines» and click the Add box next to it.
  4. Now, in the box that appears, enter Restart as a search engine, * r * as a keyword and chrome: // restart as a URL, as follows:
Restart the Chrome operating system

In fact, you can do whatever keyword you want: restart , S.O.S , that one someone me Hail , or even oogaboogaheyhey , if you are crazy and / or a dolphin with technical knowledge that says things like «oogaboogaheyhey». Any keyword you choose will be the command you type in your browser’s address bar every time you want to restart your Chromebook, so the main thing is that you want it to be short and simple enough to be effective as a shortcut , but no so short and simple that you could accidentally enter it. And of course you want it to be something you’ll remember.

Once you’ve done all this, just click the Add button to save it, then type the magic word in the address bar and press Enter whenever you need a fresh start.

Chrome OS Reset Shortcut: Browser Button Option

If you’re more of a clicker than a keyword reminder, take 20 seconds to bring the new fancy reset to your browser’s address bar as a clickable button.

It’s easy to do:

  1. Go to a Chrome window and look for the bookmarks bar, that link bar just below your browser’s address bar. If you don’t see it, press Ctrl-Shift-B to activate it.
  2. Right-click (or double-click) anywhere in the bar and select «Add Page» from the menu that appears.
  3. Scribe Restart for name and chrome: // restart for the URL and click the Save button.

Now find the newly created restart button in that area (and drag and drop it if you want to move it to a more prominent place). I told you it’s easy!

Chrome operating system reset shortcut: hardware button combo

Last but not least, there’s a built-in shortcut to the physical buttons on your Chromebook, and I think it’s something that about 0.02% of Chromebook owners realize exists. It works well, but depending on the specifics of your device, it may or may not always be as convenient as the on-screen options we just reviewed, and it may not be possible at all, especially if you’re using a desktop Chromebox. Or any other similar configuration.

However, with a typical Chromebook, take a mental note: press and hold the Refresh button on the top row of the keyboard, and then tap the physical power button, either on the side of the device or on the same top row of the keyboard, in depending on the device, will cause the computer to restart.

Who knows?!

So here it is: three quick and easy ways to restart your Chromebook at any time. Hopefully Google will add an appropriate command for this as part of the on-screen stop menu soon, but until then, you have some pretty decent options.
